Visual Arts
Visual Arts at Trinity invites students to explore their creativity, develop artistic skills and express meaningful ideas through a variety of media. In a Christ-centred environment, students learn to appreciate beauty, think imaginatively and use their God-given talents with confidence and purpose.
Visual Arts
-
At Trinity Christian School, visual arts give students the freedom to explore ideas, develop practical skills and express their unique creative perspective. Through pencil, oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastels, charcoal, sculpture and other artistic media, students learn how colour, line, texture, form and composition work together.
Visual arts education encourages careful observation, creative thinking and confident self-expression. Students learn to experiment, solve problems and persevere through the creative process—from an initial idea to a finished work of art.
-
In the elementary years, students discover the joy of creating through playful, hands-on art experiences. They explore foundational concepts such as colour, shape, pattern, line and texture while experimenting with drawing, painting, pastels, collage and introductory sculpture.
-
As students enter middle school, they build upon their foundational skills through more detailed projects and a wider variety of artistic media. Students may explore pencil, charcoal, pastels, watercolour, acrylic painting, mixed media and three-dimensional work while learning more about composition, proportion, perspective, value and colour theory.
Projects become more challenging as students plan their work, refine techniques and make thoughtful creative decisions. They are encouraged to take artistic risks, respond constructively to feedback and begin developing their own creative voice.
-
At the high school level, students undertake more advanced projects that require greater technical skill, creative independence and personal interpretation. Through drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media and other specialized techniques, students explore increasingly complex themes, methods and artistic styles.
Students learn to develop an idea from concept and preliminary studies through to a polished final piece. They may also build a portfolio that demonstrates artistic growth, personal expression and readiness for future study or creative opportunities beyond high school.
-
At Trinity, visual arts extend beyond learning how to draw, paint or sculpt. Students are encouraged to recognize creativity as a gift from God and to see beauty, meaning and purpose in the world around them.
Through art, students gain an appreciation for different cultures, historical periods and creative perspectives while developing patience, discipline and thoughtful observation. They learn that visual expression can communicate truth, inspire others and honour God through the responsible use of their talents.
